“School is out and it’s a sort of a buzz
And back then I didn’t really know what it was
But now I see what happened. It’s
the way that people respond to summer madness.” (“Summertime” by Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince)
I know I just dated myself by sharing those lyrics, but I couldn’t resist. Did I mention that

While some moms dread school being out, I am almost more excited than my boys. As I alluded to yesterday, on Thankful Thursday,
● no more super-early mornings. – my boys have to be at school by 7:20am, so you can imagine what time we have to get up (Disclaimer: Hubby helps out. We alternate weeks.)
● no more figuring out school lunch. – I am a creature of habit and the thought of having to create new and healthy lunch options is a daunting task, to say the least. My boys had to eat “cafeteria food” on more occasions than I care to admit.
● no more checking homework folders and signing reading logs. – My goodness, I already graduated from school and have no desire to return anytime soon. But, it feels like I’m in school all over again when I have to help with homework. I mean, Junior and Kid Flash were only in 2nd and 1st grade, respectively, but I couldn’t tell by the homework they had. I know I’m not the only one who had problems with some of that (new) math. On second thought, maybe I do need to go back. (And even though they were in a stellar afterschool program that helped with homework, sometimes I still had to check it or afterschool was closed.)
So, now what???

Here’s to a great, fun-filled summer! What are your kiddos doing for the summer?
Until next time-
So I commend the enjoyment of life, because there is nothing better for a person under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad. Then joy will accompany them in their toil all the days of the life God has given them under the sun. (Ecclesiastes 8:15 NIV)
