I was cleaning out Kid Flash’s homework folder this morning before school and found something that nearly tore my heart out…a love note. It read like this:
I LOVE YOU. ~Missy*
(* Changed the name to protect the child’s identity)
Did I mention that Kid Flash is in the First Grade?!?!?!?!?!? What…in…the…world…is…going…on??? Granted, he has been coming home recently telling us who he has broken up with and who his new girlfriend is, but a love note? I can’t!
I’m the mama! I carried you for 9 months! I sacrificed my normal level of caffeine to protect you in utero. My hips “popped and locked” as I walked during pregnancy. I endured the pain of childbirth to bring you in this world. I experienced many sleepless nights to care for you as an infant or when you were sick. I run around tirelessly transporting you to your various extracurricular activities and programs. I slave (ok, not really) over a hot stove to prepare your meals.
Ok, you get the point. I’m simply not ready and I refuse to give my baby up to the “love of his life”!
Until next time-
“Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! (Isaiah 49:15 NIV)
