(School) Lunch is Served

One of the areas where I struggle the most is preparing school lunch for my boys.  The School Lunch Roundup, prepared by Lisa Leake of 100 Days of Real Food, puts me to shame and makes me feel quite inadequate at times (no fault of hers).

Preparing a healthy school lunch for your child(ren) requires commitment, creativity and planning.  I just can’t seem to find the time to plan out elaborate school lunches like the ones I see on Pinterest and numerous other blogs.  I find myself resorting to the ‘ole standbys – PB&J, turkey sandwich, ham sandwich or leftover spaghetti.   I would love to send my kids to school with lunches like these:

But, who in the world has time to prepare those kinds of lunches?  I sure don’t!   So, I had to figure out what works for me.  I am overjoyed to have finally found a Thermos that actually keeps food warm until lunch time, so now I can send leftovers from the previous night’s dinner for lunch.  Easy peasy!  And, my kids get a hot, healthy lunch.

How do you tackle the issue of school lunch?  Send pics…I need more ideas!

Until next time-

Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’  ”  (Matthew 4:4 NIV)

Those lunches are beautiful but I agree – quite unattainable! We also use leftovers in our lunches. I don’t know how we would get it done otherwise. I just started posting what we send with our son to help motivate me to keep it healthy and not-boring. It’s hard to get it together every day though!
