Can you believe our oldest son, Tray, is on Spring Break from college this week and had the audacity to NOT come home?!?!? First of all (I am rolling my neck and shaking my finger), I didn’t even know this was his Spring Break until he texted me to see if his younger brothers were on Spring Break. So, when I asked when his Spring Break would be he responded that he was on it now. Well, I’ll be…! Naturally, my next question was, ‘Are you coming home?’ I even threw in that his little brothers have soccer games this weekend. His response knocked me off my “rocker” – “I’m doing something with [my girlfriend] and her friends.” After all I’ve done for you?!? And, you can’t come home and visit us for Spring Break??? Where did we go wrong??? Then I remembered, he’s an adult now, a man even.
So, I dried my tears and decided to send him (and his girlfriend) a care package to show him how much we love him and miss him. Especially his younger brothers. Moms, we have to let go (a little bit) at some point. But, we will always be “Mom”.
Until next time-
“Listen to your father, who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old. Buy the truth and do not sell it— wisdom, instruction and insight as well. The father of a righteous child has great joy; a man who fathers a wise son rejoices in him. May your father and mother rejoice; may she who gave you birth be joyful!” (Proverbs 23:22-25 NIV)
